Linksys extenders shipping?

Well, here’s a nice Christmas surprise from Dell:

Linksys DMA 2100 extender

This is the $250 model, sans DVD player. The $300 DMA 2200, with DVD, is listed as shipping in 1-2 weeks. I just placed my order and got a confirmation that the unit will ship on December 27. We’ll see. If all goes well it will be here sometime next week

I checked a few other suppliers and found that Computers4Sure claims to have the DMA 2100 in stock as well, at the same price and also with free shipping.

  1. Ed,

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn’t you just get an Xbox 360 Arcade, assuming you have a wired connection? I can see why if you are using wireless since the wireless Xbox adapter is an additional $60.

  2. Marcus, I already have two xbox 360s used as extenders. The spousal acceptance factor is near zero because of the horrendous noise they make. The fanless Linksys boxes should be a big improvement. And there’s also presumably less latency. Currently when we start the xbox we have to wait for the xbox console to load, then for it to auto-load my xbox live account, then finally to connect to the Media Center. With an extender, that should be cut by half.
