There was a series of young-adult novels called the “Matthew Looney” books, and one of them featured a planet where an elite corps called the “Futurians” had come to power.
“There are no more historians. There are Futurians. They get together and decide what’s going to happen, and then they print it in these books.”
“And it happens?”
“Always.”
