This one made me laugh:
Dear @ FIRST NAME@,
If you’re interested in learning how others are integrating new media into the marketing mix, you are invited to download a new white paper we’ve just released with extensive research on the latest trends in online marketing, blogs, podcasting, RSS, email and database marketing. You can download it …
I’ll spare this marketing company the embarrassment of naming and shaming them. But if you’re a company that uses a third-party service to send out press releases, you should make sure they’re at least minimally competent.
Hee hee hee! I expect that they thought you’d be so dazzled by the product or service that you wouldn’t notice!
The other type of marketing email that I get a lot of (which may be because I’m on this side of the pond) are the ones that are entirely in a foreign language. French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, as well as a raft of Far Eastern languages that at times I can’t even recognize. There was a time when something caught my eye and I emailed back asking (nicely) for a translation – and got a reply again that I couldn’t understand.
Ed, if you even SAW this e-mail, your spam filters need some serious work. 🙂
