Those geeks in Houston know how to eat and drink

Dwight Silverman passes along the agenda for the monthly Technology Bytes Geek Gathering in Houston. Now, I’m sure it will be extra-geeky fun (free WiFi too), but my favorite part of the announcement is the location.

It’s at Tropioca. A coffee/tapioca bar.

Coffee and tapioca. Together. Coffee is my favorite non-alcoholic beverage. Tapioca has been one of my favorite desserts since I was about this high. Now, if Dwight tells me there’s a joint that serves good barbeque ribs brisket [thanks, Brad!] within walking distance, I’d say they’ve hit the trifecta.

  1. “Now, if Dwight tells me there’s a joint that serves good barbeque ribs within walking distance…”

This is TEXAS, dude. They give away free BBQ ribs on every street corner. The paperboy delivers two racks of ribs with every paper. There’s a third tap on every sink labeled RIBS. In other words, you won’t have ANY trouble finding ribs!

  2. Google says that there is Pappas Bar-B-Q: Central
1217 Pierce St, Houston, TX 77002. It’s just under a mile away.

I’ve eaten at quite a few Pappas Bar-B-Q’s here in Houston and they are all great–including the ribs!

And Jim is absolutely correct in his assessment of RIBS down here. I think our Gov. is working with BIG OIL right now to find a way to ease gas pains here in Texas by converting vehicles to run on B-B-Q sauce. We’ve have a real glut since the last Houston Rodeo.

  3. You know…I was just down the road on Milam at Mais’ http://www.maisrestauranttx.com/ jsut last night scarfing down some Pho noodles and spring-rolls with my brother before we set out to watch the Astros and St.Louis play in our downtown ballpark.

Pho noodles, open-air baseball, hanging out with your brother–priceless!

  4. Forego the ribs when eating Texas BBQ and go for the beef brisket. I went to school in Houston and the only thing I miss about the town is the food and the bars…
