My father passed away this afternoon, unexpectedly.
I’ll be traveling this week to be with my mother and the rest of my family and won’t be posting any updates.

My sincere condolences Ed
I haven’t been to this site for very long, but in the short time I’ve come, I’ve respected your opinions. I’m saddened that you have lost your father, and my best wishes go with you and yours.
All the same goes for me, Ed. You’ve helped answer a lot of questions and bring a lot of information to your readers through your blog. I’m very sad to hear about your loss. I know I speak for everyone here when I tell you to take as much time as you need. The loss of a close friend or family member is never an easy thing to stand – even more so when it’s a parent. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.
My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Sorry to hear about your father Ed. I hope all will be well.
Adding my condolences as well. To lose your father is awful, but to have it happen unexpectedly is even harder. Wishing strength for you and your family.

Candles
The days of our future stand in front of us
like a row of little lit candles —
golden, warm, and lively little candles.
The days past remain behind us,
a mournful line of extinguished candles;
the ones nearest are still smoking,
cold candles, melted, and bent.
I do not want to look at them; their form saddens me,
and it saddens me to recall their first light.
I look ahead at my lit candles.
I do not want to turn back, lest I see and shudder
at how fast the dark line lengthens,
at how fast the extinguished candles multiply.

I have only been associated with this website for a short time, however, may I convey my deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Deepest sympathies on your loss.
My deepest condolences. Here is a short poem where I find comfort in times of grief.
“To walk, we have to lean forward, lose our balance, and begin to fall.
We let go constantly of the previous stability, falling all the time, trusting that we will find a succession of new stabilities with each step.
Our experiences of the past, and of those dear to us, are not lost at all, but remain richly with us forever.”
Find strength in your family and the memories of your father.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family in your time of pain.
Very sorry to hear the sad news, Ed. When my own Dad died, despite feeling very grown-up about these things, I fell apart. I expect we all do, to some extent, whatever the relationship was like. You’ll probably come to grips with some unexpected emotions, but it will all pass. And in the end – please God – you’ll realise that there’s a part of your Dad that will go on, inside you.
My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
My sincere condolences to you and your family.
Adding my message of condolence, I am sorry for your loss.
