My father passed away this afternoon, unexpectedly.

I’ll be traveling this week to be with my mother and the rest of my family and won’t be posting any updates.

  4. All the same goes for me, Ed. You’ve helped answer a lot of questions and bring a lot of information to your readers through your blog. I’m very sad to hear about your loss. I know I speak for everyone here when I tell you to take as much time as you need. The loss of a close friend or family member is never an easy thing to stand – even more so when it’s a parent. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

  24. My deepest condolences. Here is a short poem where I find comfort in times of grief.

    “To walk, we have to lean forward, lose our balance, and begin to fall.

    We let go constantly of the previous stability, falling all the time, trusting that we will find a succession of new stabilities with each step.

    Our experiences of the past, and of those dear to us, are not lost at all, but remain richly with us forever.”

    Find strength in your family and the memories of your father.

  26. Very sorry to hear the sad news, Ed. When my own Dad died, despite feeling very grown-up about these things, I fell apart. I expect we all do, to some extent, whatever the relationship was like. You’ll probably come to grips with some unexpected emotions, but it will all pass. And in the end – please God – you’ll realise that there’s a part of your Dad that will go on, inside you.
