Wow. A lot of really interesting stuff on the Windows Live Ideas page.
I’ve been using the Windows OneCare Live beta for a couple months. It’s been exceptionally stable and unobtrusive – enough so that I’ve completely dropped my previous favorite, Trend Micro PC-cillin.
If you’re looking for an antivirus/firewall/backup package, this is a good one to try. It’s free now but will be a paid service (no hints of ultimate cost) eventually.
I’m also planning to sign up for the Windows Live Mail beta today.
Ok…on your advice I’m going to give this program a try. Heck…maybe it’s better to send a few dollars to the Microsoft “mothership” rather than use 3rd party programs.
Some of the MS programs I’ve tried have been awful…some have been darn good.
At least my critical data is on external drives and backed up to other drives…so I can afford to have a little fun in “beta-land”.
I would like to try Windows OneCare out, but, as I am an oversea’s reader I cannot use this service. I guess I will have to wait as usual. By the way I am American and a Retired Air Force Service Man Living in th U.K.
I noticed that it would not let me download it via Firefox, that I had to go to IE to do so. That’s only a download requirement, correct?
Mark,
Generally, I’ve been able to download things from MS sites with Firefox. What specifically were you trying to download?
Not the greatest success story for me; Somehow OneCare broke something and my browsing got very slow…especially on pages with lots of graphics.
Fortunately, I was able to re-image my machine and made this beta go away.
Too bad….not ready for prime time. At least not for me and my machine.
