A new feed to read

Dwight, you didn’t tell me you added a full-text feed!

(Thanks to Mike Torres for the pointer.)

Update: It’s an experiment, Dwight says. Even if you don’t live in Houston, you should visit his site and subscribe to his feed.

  1. We don’t — anymore.

Movable Type autogenerates Atom feeds for each blog. We weren’t linking them on our blogs, but they’re accessible if you know what to do. I didn’t realize they were full-feed until I saw this, and now they’re not. Thanks for the head’s up!

As I’ve said before, full-feed doesn’t work when you rely on people to see/click your on-site ads for revenue. They’re great if you’re a blogger and your main concern is getting your voice heard. Commercial sites like the Chronicle need folks to actually pay a visit.

  2. Just so you’re aware, Dwight, I wasn’t using any secret Jedi tricks. FeedDemon auto-discovered two feeds and gave me a choice when I clicked the orange RSS button. It didn’t tell me what each one did, so from a user’s point of view it was a coin toss.

Personally, I think you will get more traffic and make more money with a full-text feed. Sorry, but I don’t subscribe to partial feeds. I just don’t have the time to go chasing down teasers. So you won’t get linked as often from my site as you might if you had full-text feeds. And those links would drive more traffic to your site (not just to your RSS feed).

I’ll explain this logic in more detail someday when I get a chance.
